Due to sudden changes implemented by our Web Host, our frequently used aliases such as activities06@LIST.ColumbiaSkiClub.org haven't worked for several weeks. Your web team has been exploring options. Kudos are in order but most of you just want to know "How does this impact me?"
All address patterns shown in bold above change to simply 09@ ; so 6 becomes 9 and "LIST." is history. In other words, the pattern is now something09@ColumbiaSkiClub.org .
Be sure to update your Address Books! Likely names you may have saved include: Activities, Board, bod, Database, Directors, Membership, Newsletter, Officers, President, The Big Kahuna, Publicity, SkiTrips, SkiTripLeaders, Treasurer, Secretary, Updates, Webmaster, Web Team, and CSC anything-except-MTS. (Your mileage may vary.)
If you email the old 06@LIST. addresses, no one will see your mail! Unfortunately, the web team has no way to control this. The web team will not see such "dead letters".
Note: These changes do not effect the MTS list - use csc-mts@eccnet.com as we have since early 2009.
As many of you know, you don't have to put CSC alias addresses in your Address Book. There are 2 (updated) pages on the web site that make contacting club leaders easy.
Both of these are available from the purple About CSC button on most web pages of the site. Of course, feel free to contact us directly using the new address pattern, but if you don't receive a response in a few days, it may be because you used the wrong address.
If you are a club officer or committee chair, you should test your own alias using the links on the directory page: Directory of CSC Officers and Committees. [And if you are not listed on the Directory page, please do not send test messages!]
Besides the address pattern change, be aware that so far we have been unable to force the handy "[csc]" prefix to be automatically added to the subject line of any message sent to an alias. This is important to know if you have filter rules setup that depend upon that convention. We'll try to get this working, but don't depend on it.
If you email any something09@ColumbiaSkiClub.org address and don't receive a reply in several days, notify the web team.
If you are a club officer or are on a committee and aren't receiving email, notify the web team. Be sure to mention all aliases you should be listed on and all addresses you want added; very important if you use multiple addresses.
If your email address changes, notify the web team. (Gee, are you beginning to see a pattern, gang?)
We know there are geeks in our club who want to know the techie details. Well, at least one. Right, Ted? Basically, our Web Host has had so many spammers that some of the major providers such as Verizon, Comcast, AOL, etc. won't accept forwards. Surprisingly, our host did not notify us via email or snail mail that they were instituting a change, so we were caught with our... well, unaware. For those who wonder why we don't dump these idiots, it's mainly because we have yet to find an alternative that will directly support the SQL and .Net setup that Bob and Sherry depend upon for adding, updating, and tracking our many fine activities. This interface was created circa 2004 by former member, Jim Leavy. We may explore GoDaddy again at some point but they were unable to meet our needs a year or two ago.
Feel free to read our web host's explanation that we've downloaded from their site: Why did your hosting disable auto forward to Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, Comcast and Verizon?
The solution Wayne implemented involves the new alias patterns still on our old web host, but each one forwards to csc{something} at skicouncil.com. Presently, Wayne is the only one who can update the individual addresses that fan out from each alias. This may change, so please be sure to send any updates to the web team.
