Election 2008
2008 Election ResultsThe annual Columbia Ski Club election was held on March 10, 2008 at our general meeting. We had a truly wonderful turnout with a packed room and absolutely no problem reaching a quorum. As usual, we had lots of great candidates so it was pretty difficult to choose. Every single candidate would have made a fine director. Drum roll please!! The 3 winners in alphabetical order of two-year terms as Directors and all-expenses-paid trips to Columbia, MD are: Jean (Pohl) McArdle, Jan O'Connor, and "Other Ted" S. Also as usual, the competition for President-Elect was -- well -- not quite so intense. Longtime member Rob Foard was the write-in candidate who easily swept the election. No need for a Florida recount on that one! Since Rob was a current director who became President-Elect, Tina Dorn will finish Rob's term by being a director for one year (and all-expenses-paid trip to Savage ;-) The remaining directors who have another year on the Board are: Andrew Nard and Tom Stanitis. Your new President for the 2008-09 season is yours truly, Joyce the Redhead. I will do my best to take over the reins from Gary Prestianni. Congratulations to all the winners and a big "thank you" to the also-rans! Thanks especially to Kate Farber, the election committee chair, for her hard work and to Lynne (Pusanik) Wagner who handled lots of the logistics. Joyce Wronka, incoming CSC President.

The CSC is a very well run club because of the wonderful volunteers. When I joined the CSC approximately two years ago, I was a "taker" and participated in a variety of activities. I have thoroughly enjoyed the activities and the people in the CSC. It is now time for me to give back. I am not a skier and would like to put my efforts as a Board member into expanding the current level of more than ski activities. I am Director - Tax Compliance and Reporting for Constellation Energy. I am a CPA and hold a Masters in Taxation. I am focused and have excellent organizational skills and have the reputation for working hard. If elected, I intend to work hard to make the Ski Club even better. I welcome the challenge and commitment and would appreciate your vote in March. Molly HochmanI'm happy to be running for the Board of Directors for the Columbia Ski Club. The ski club has many creative and diverse activities to enjoy and these activities are continuously happening, they never stop. I have much experience in the trip and activity area. Listed below is my resume of events and experience with Columbia Ski Club:
My experience with skiing outside of the club is 8 years as a representative on the Blue Ridge Ski Council, working on the Timeline for Trips Committee and the Nominations Committee. I've had experience as president of another social club. As president I worked with the committees that do ski trips, dances, weekend trips, and overseas travel trips. Plus fun activities like, bridge, scavenger hunts, sailing, boating, softball, volleyball, skits, day trips to various area specialties, dinners' out and happy hours. I was also the committee chair for the program committee for 5 years. I have tried (as you can see from the above experience) to give of myself by leading trips or activities and by participating in many activities. All in all, I think my executive and organizational experience will serve well for the Board of Directors. So, Please vote for me, to be your representative on the Board. And never forget, that the friends that you make are the best part of the club. Thanks. Molly Hochman Jean (Pohl) McArdleHi, I’m Jean (Pohl) McArdle and would like to continue to serve you as a member of the Columbia Ski Club Board of Directors. I have been a member of the Columbia Ski Club since the late 1990’s. I have been a member of the board and the ski trip committee; have participated in the bowling league, a number of ski trips (European and U.S.), Christmas in April, and many other activities. I now hope to be able to continue to serve all of you as a member of the board. My leadership positions include:
I’m a Principal Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman and hold degrees from Polytechnic University of New York (MS Computer Science) and Purdue University (BS Computer Science). As an engineer, I am used to gathering data, examining it, investigating tradeoffs and alternatives, and then making an informed decision based upon the facts presented. If elected to the board, I will use these skills to examine the issues and make decisions that are in the best interest of the club and its members. Thank you. Jan O'ConnorTwo years ago, I joined the Columbia Ski Club on the advice of one of the board members. The club has dramatically improved the quality of my life. I have met many warm and interesting people, participated in diverse activities, taken up skiing and biking again, and traveled to exciting ski and non-ski locations. I admire and appreciate the time and effort many of the leaders in the club have contributed to keep the club running as smoothly and effectively as it does. It is now my turn to make a contribution to the on-going success of the Columbia Ski Club. My qualifications for the position are primarily legal and organizational. For the last 16 years, I ‘ve been a private attorney practicing general law in Howard County. During my early career, I worked for the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Maryland Attorney’s General’s Office, and the Department of Defense. I sat on the Board of Directors at the Sttar Center, graduated from Leadership Howard County (class of ‘95) and provided countless hours of pro bono legal advice to less fortunate members of our community. As a Board Member, I envision my efforts to be heavily weighted in policy development and implementation. I work well under pressure and enjoy challenges. Most of all, I listen carefully to the needs of others, without letting emotions interfere with resolving necessary issues. I take leadership responsibility seriously and hope to be privileged enough to be voted onto the Board of Directors for a two year term. "Other Ted"Greetings all, Many of you know me as "Other Ted" so I've decided to run under that banner. I've been asked in the past to run for the board of directors but have respectfully declined due to various commitments. Having lead and participated in tons of ski club activities for over a decade, this year I enthusiastically accept this nomination to serve the fine people of the Columbia Ski Club! Perhaps you've attended one of my recent events, such as the Super Bowl Party, Boordy Vineyard Picnic & Concerts, Maryland Wine Festival, or hiking the Billy Goat Trail along the Potomac. Many of you will remember the popular Laser Tag events of yesteryear. I've also supported several Columbia Ski Club committees in an effort to give something back to this awesome club. The prior experience I've gained serving on a board of directors has helped me cultivate the leadership skills necessary to be an effective member of the Columbia Ski Club board. I believe you will find me to be calm, fair and decisive once I have all the facts, taking into consideration how each decision by the board will affect all the members of the organization. I look forward to working with the president, board, and other volunteers so we can maintain this as one of the best clubs in all of Maryland! Most importantly, I really love the people and friendships I have made over the past decade in this fabulous club! Those friendships are what keeps me coming back and I want to help ensure that new and old members alike get to enjoy the same feeling of family as I do. Humbly Yours, Other Ted There are no known write-ins at this time.
