The April 2009 CSC newsletter article (below) by our own Chris Law recommends the use of ski helmets. For those needing empirical evidence to support this, Jeannie-Marie Leoutsakos pointed us to an article from the Canadian Medical Association Journal (Feb. 2010) entitled The effect of helmets on the risk of head and neck injuries among skiers and snowboarders: a meta-analysis. (If the PDF doesn't display, click on the Manual Download link.) The researchers concluded:
"Our findings show that helmets reduce the risk of head injury among skiers and snowboarders with no evidence of an increased risk of neck injury."
Still not convinced? Well, in 2009 Vail required all employees to wear helmets. (Article has some interesting statistics.)
By the way, as of February 2010, the Princeton Sports coupon is still good!
