August 10, 2006: We have just learned of the very sudden passing of a spirited,
fun-loving woman who has been an active
club member for at least a dozen years. CSC deeply mourns the loss of
Linda Bain, CSC Racing Team Chair for many years and former member of the CSC Board of Directors.
Details are very sketchy at this time. We understand Linda was on a biking and
camping trip in Vermont when about one-and-a-half or two days ago, her throat closed up and she turned blue.
Medics nearby were unable to revive her.
Funeral arrangements and other details will be made available as soon as we hear more.

Linda Biggers Bain (Age 59)
Of Waynesboro, PA, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 suddenly and unexpectedly while participating in a biking and
kayaking adventure in Vermont. Born October 7, 1946 in Takoma Park, MD, she was the daughter of Ellen Biggers
Carlson and the late Paul Biggers. She was a graduate of Columbia Union College with a degree in education with
the Class of 1969.
Mrs. Bain taught both in public and private instructions primarily at the elementary school level for a number
of years. In addition to teaching, she also did home based retail sales. She enjoyed outdoor sports, especially still
water kayaking, hiking, biking, rollerblading and snow skiing where she was a competitor and certified teacher.
She also enjoyed doing handcrafts and gardening. Mrs. Bain was known for her collection of fine pottery and Native
American Art. She will be remembered for her love of life and people as well as her happy countenance.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Kennon Bain; one son, Michael Britton Bain of Silver Spring, MD; one daughter,
Angela Lynn Bain of Washington, DC; her mother and step-father, Ellen and Edwin Carlson of Asheville, NC; and one brother,
David Lynn Biggers of Atlanta, GA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 18, 2006 in GROVE-BOWERSOX FUNERAL HOME, 50 South Broad Street,
Waynesboro, PA, 717-762-2811. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M., Thursday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 225 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to
the charity of one's choice.

Fran Plate (Mary Frances Clare Richardson) passed away July 18, 2006.
Fran was very active during the 80s from right after the first meeting.
She was considered a valuable member of the Moguls softball team during that time and was also a
part of the bowling group. During the 80s, she ran Beach Trips to Ocean City, and set up the
Annual Family Picnic at Centennial Park. She ran ski trips to Killington, Canaan Valley, and
Winter Park. Please email any pictures of Fran to Kitty at Kitty2BigSky@aol.com. Fran met and
married Lee Plate at one of the CSC Happy Hours around 1983. She will be missed by her many
friends and her family, husband Calvin Richardson, her son and daughter who grew up in the ski
club, Steven and Michelle Clare.

It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of
Maribeth Geiss on Monday, February 13, 2006. Maribeth was a long time
member of the Columbia Ski Club and will be greatly missed.
Maribeth served on the Awards Committee for many years.
Viewing will be at the Sterling-Ashton-Witze Funeral Home from
3:00- 5:00 and 7:00- 9:00 on Friday, February 17, 2006. The Funeral
Home is located at 1630 Edmondson Avenue, Catonsville, Md. 21227
Funeral Services will be held at St Mark's Chapel on Melvin Avenue
in Catonsville at 10:00 am Saturday February 18, 2006.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to
the Maryland Special Olympics atwww.somdhc.org.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Bill Parlock and Maribeth's
family. Maribeth will be missed by all who knew her.

| It has come to our attention that a Columbia Ski Club member perished in the attack
on the United States, September 11, 2001. Ed Graf, who participated on the Grindelwald trip
and is a cousin of Bill Eskew, was on the 107th floor of Tower One when the World Trade Center was hit.
Ed was also the brother of long-time club member MaryBeth Graf-Brohawn.

Sad loss of a long-time ski club member:
We regret to inform you that our brother, Stephen Smith, died Sunday night Oct. 14, 2000 in his sleep. His funeral service was Oct. 19th, and he was buried in Little Rock, AR Oct. 20th.

Sadly, we must inform you that Alan Browne, the 4th president of the Columbia Ski Club (circa 1985) passed away on October 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife Pat and son Philip.
One of the major changes in the Columbia Ski Club during Alan's Presidency was Pat Browne's suggestion, design, and coordination of the now standard, LEARN TO SKI PROGRAM - with the Columbia Ski Club.
