ELECTIONS

The Columbia Ski Club is a volunteer organization; none of the Directors are recompensed for their service—at least not monetarily. However, the rewards in giving back to the CSC are immeasurable. Perhaps this is why we see so many members who have served on the Board in the past, throwing their names into the ring for an opportunity to serve again.

In order for the CSC to remain a vibrant, growing organization we must continually infuse the leadership of the Club with new people; this means you! If you've never considered running for the Board, please take some time and consider it now. If you have any questions about the Board, or if you would like to run for Board of Directors or President-Elect, then please contact the Elections Committee at:

Candidate Write-ups

President Elect Candidate

Jim Ferrant

Hello I’m Jim Ferrant, candidate for president of the Columbia Ski Club

I’ve been a member of the club since the mid 1990’s.  During that time I have traveled annually on ski trips with the club.  I have lead 4 ski trips and assisted on 4 trips.  I have been on the ski trip planning committee for several years.     I am well versed in group trip promotion and management.

I am an avid skier and mountain enthusiast who in annually skis more than 30 days per year.  I love the outdoors and enjoy sharing that experience with others.  I am retired and have the time to give back to the club as president elect.

I have multiple experiences with organizational management, serving in various roles in: Boy Scouts (committee chairperson); Frederick Co Rebuilding Together (habitat) board; treasurer of my home owners association and the WISP Ski Patrol; Chairperson Frederick County Agribusiness PR committee; etc.  I mention these to document my volunteer commitment and experience in various roles that give me the skills needed to lead the Columbia Ski Club.

Please give me serious consideration and your vote for president elect for the Columbia Ski Club
.

Director Candidates [in random order]

Denise Berger

Hello Columbia Ski Club friends. My name is Denise Berger and I am running for a position on your board. I have been a member of the CSC since 2008. The activities I have participated in include the following; dining out, happy hour, road clean up,non-ski trips, christmas gift wrapping, bike rides, hikes, roller blade lessons, crab feast, Toby's, and Christmas in April just to mention a few. My next goal with the CSC, with your help is to serve as a board member.

My leadership positiions and committee membership in the CSC include; dining out, happy hour, game night, MTS trip committee member, holiday dinner hostess.

For the last 25 years, I have been a Territory Manager at US Foods (national foodservice distributor). As a TM, you need to be organized, be able to communicate, listen to your customers needs and be able to work with all types of personalties. I think the skills I have acquired will serve me well as a CSC board member.

So as  new board member, I would be able to use all my skills and experiences to listen and communicate the needs of all the CSC members to the board.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of the CSC as a nonskier member and would greatly appreciate your vote of confidence to represent you as a member of the CSC board.

Thanks so very much.

Kat Rhee

My name is Kat (Kathleen) Rhee and I am very happy to be running as a candidate for the CSC Board of Directors.  I have been a member of CSC for a little over ten years and have come to truly love the club.  I have enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful people, the very thing that makes this club unique.  I have also enjoyed participating in the many different activities that CSC has to offer.  Last year I assisted Gary Prestianni in leading the Club’s 2011 trip to Steamboat, CO, and this year I was a trip leader for the first time for the 2012 Whistler trip.  So I finally got to see firsthand the amount of work and dedication it takes to run a trip. But I also enjoyed the opportunity to get to know more of our members doing the very thing that this club was born to do…bring people together who enjoy the sport of skiing!

Over the last ten years as a member of Columbia Ski Club, I was one of the ones who enjoyed the activities, trips and gatherings; but always let someone else handle the details.  And what a great job our volunteers have always done!  Now it’s time for me to give back!  In my career as an advertising/marketing production manager, I have had to work with people of all ages, talents and personalities and have always prided myself as a very competent, organized contributor.  I believe these qualities would serve the club well when put to use as a Board Member.

I am very excited about the prospect of meeting the commitment and challenges that go along with becoming a member of the Board of Directors and I hope that you will give me your vote in March.

Thank you!

Joe Brenner

I’ve come to know a lot of people in the club since rejoining a couple of years ago.  I greatly enjoy traveling with the club and being a part of a truly diverse group of people. I would like to give back to the group by serving on the Board.  I think that I have the necessary skills to become a meaningful contributor to the Board.

I am a past president of the Adventurers Club of Towson as well as their current webmaster.  I’ve also served as treasurer of several investment clubs I’ve belonged to. I’ve sat at the treasury table for the last few meetings and greatly enjoy both helping out as well as meeting the trip leaders.  I have what it takes to be an active contributor to Board activities.  I have a very good sense of organization and can be creative when it comes to solving problems.

I feel that the club is a great place to meet and socialize.  The people are great and a lot of fun to hang out with.  I find that I have a lot in common with many of you as I get to know more of you.

I’m an active skier and get out almost every week once the season starts locally.  I also do a trip of a week or more with the club each winter.  In addition, I support the direction the club has taken in offering non-ski trips.  I feel that this serves a lot of members who don’t ski as well as skiers who enjoy travelling and prefer to do it with a group rather than on their own.

I’m open to any ideas that others have around the club and what they think should happen.  I think there’s a lot of room for ideas and anyone on the board should be open to those that others have.  I’d like to see the club grow beyond its current membership base although I feel the group is of a good size already.  However, as I’ve seen with other groups I belong to, as the average age increases it’s hard to get younger people interested.  The future of any group depends on its ability to attract younger people to keep it viable.

Joyce Wronka

Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying all the great stuff the club offers. I have been a member of the club for over 21 years and have greatly enjoyed the activities and trips the club offers its members. During my participation I have made many great friendships that I cherish greatly. During my membership years, I have taken an active role in the club. Below is a shorten version of my ski club resume:

  • President of the Club
  • Director, Board of Directors
  • Member of the More Then Ski Trips Planning Committee
  • SkI Trip leader
  • Activity Chairman
  • Hospitality Chair
  • Awards Committee Chairman
  • Crab Feast Committee
  • Planned thousands of activities over the years

Why am I running for the BOD? I want to be the conduit between the general membership and the decision makers of the club. I want to represent the interests of every member of the club, and make sure the club is meeting everyone's needs. I want to insure that all voices are heard and that action is taken to give our members the best club experience possible.

When the ballots come out, no matter what order the candidates are in, find Joyce and always remember: VOTE for Joyce – She is your best choice!!!!!!!!!!!!
