Doors open at 9:45 for brunch and conversation. (I try to get there at 9:30 as the tables fill up fast.) The film begins at 10:30 followed by a spirited Q and A discussion. Titles are generally announced the week before each screening on the web site and in the Today section of The Baltimore Sun each Friday. We might want to go to Gertrude’s at the BMA for brunch after the show. Dottie Tim plays quiet listening jazz there every Sunday until around 2:30.

01/12/2008 Sat	Other	DATE CHANGE! Shopping/Dining/Movies. Join us for a fun afternoon shopping and dining at Wegman's. A store which has raised the bar on the food shopping experience - a spectacular abundance of choice, restaurant-quality prepared foods, and a beautiful store just to stroll in. We will meet Jan. 12th at 2:00pm inside at the entrance by the produce section. Remember to bring a cooler with you in case you buy food that needs to be kept cold. We will shop until about 3:30 then meet at the Wegman's café area to eat an early dinner. They have seating on the 2nd floor that looks out over the entire store so we can people watch as we eat our meal. Wegman's has a wonderful bakery section and a coffee / tea bar so you can always just grab a cup of coffee and a pastry and people watch from the 2nd floor if you finish your shopping prior to the rest of us. The Regal Theatre is located in the same shopping center as Wegman's and is just a two-minute walk from Wegman's. So, for those interested, we will attend a matinee movie at approximately 5:00 - 5:30pm. The Regal has over 8 screens so we will decide on the movie that night. Directions to Wegman's: 695 to 83 (N). Take I-83 N to exit 20A-B - Shawan Rd, Cockeysville- on your right. Take Exit 20A and bear right onto Shawan Rd. Hunt Valley Mall will be on your left after the first traffic light. Proceed through that light and get into the far left turn lane and at the next light - turn left into the entrance for the mall. At the dead-end, turn left (you will see the sign for Wegman's). 01/13/2008 Sun	Special	DC Health and Fitness Expo - Entrance into Expo is free along with many free health tests from bone density to cholesterol to kidney disease. Meet at 8am at the bus side (west side) of the Park & Ride on Brokenland Pkwy at Rt. 32 in Columbia or you can meet the group at the Greenbelt Metro. We will ride the Metro to the DC Convention Center. Fee should be around $6 round trip. Return between 4PM and 5PM..

01/26/2008 Sat	Dining	EVENT CANCELED: Aquarius Birthday Bash Pot Luck and Game Night - We will be celebrating all January birthdays at this Pot-luck dinner at Barbara's home in Columbia. Come join us on January 26th at 7:00pm for an evening of good food, conversation, and fun. You don't need to have a January birthday to join in the celebration. All are welcome. Please bring either a main course, dessert, side dish or appetizer to share, as well as any games you may want to play. Harpers Farm Rd. and Cedar Lane in Columbia. This is a 3 course Mexican buffet dinner with unlimited margaritas. They usually have a rep from a liguor distributor there talking and sampling the different types of tequila. The dinner cost is $40 plus tip. It starts at 7 pm.

02/04/2008 Mon	Other	Event Postponed Until Late Feb. or First Half of March - Stay Tuned, Kiddies! LASERTAG AT SHADOWLAND! Have some fun playing lasertag and zapping out fellow CSC members in semi-darkness. Good exercise and good laughs - since you have to wear Terminator-looking gear over your sweatsuit and tennis shoes. The manager on-duty will select simple strategy games for us since most of us aren't prolific GameBoys and wouldn't understand what to do with a mass of superpowers anyways. Games will run from 6:30pm - 7:30 (or 8pm if we buy another 1/2 hr) DIRECTIONS to Shadowland, 9179 Red Branch Road, Columbia 21045: From Route 29, go east on Route 108. From Route 1 or I-95, go West on Route 100, and EITHER: Take Snowden River Blvd exit, make a RIGHT at Right at the light and continue on Route 108 to the Route 104/108 light and make left. Go approx 1.5 miles. Turn right at the 2nd Red Branch at a traffic LIGHT . Go 1/2 miles. Take the Route 104 exist, South around circle and back across Route 100. Proceed to first light and rake a RIGHT on Route 108. Shadowland is on the RIGHT (look for green awning). Park on the north side lots or at rear of Shadowland. Group Cost: $309 for a 1-hour LOCK-IN. For a group of at least 25 or more the price starts reducing below the individual price of $12.50 for 2 games. In 1 hour, we will get about 10 min. of instruction after donning equipment and then we will get in 3 15-min games. The hour we select is set so please leave yourself enough time to complete the waiver, remove coats, etc so that we're all ready to go in as a group for instruction, otherwise you will have to sit out the first game. (changed from previous Fire Rock). In the spirit of CSC adventurousness, we'll try the new CHEEBURGER CHEEBURGER 50's/60's-style restaurant. They are primarily and sandwich and salads place, with emphasis on big burgers and chicken sandwiches. Meet there at 6:30 PM. Enter a chili cook-off competition and donate food to a local food bank! Prizes awarded for the best three chilis as voted on by the tasters. Here's how it works: call, email, or sign up at the next meeting to indicate whether you're a chili chef or a taster. If you're a chef, cook and bring your favorite chili recipe (preferably in a crock-pot). If you're a taster, bring either a $3.00 tasting fee or a canned food or other non-perishable food item to be donated to the MD Food Bank. (Hint: the CSC tables sold out way in advance last time)... The Fantasticks is a very loose adaptation of Edmond Rostand's Les Romanesques. It concerns Matt and Luisa, a pair of young lovers separated by their feuding fathers. In fact, the old men only pretend to be enemies, working on the sound theory that children only do the opposite of their parents' wishes! What do you think happens...? Come join us and see for yourself along side good friends and at a great price!!! Doors open 6:30 PM & curtain goes up at 8 PM. The $21 admission includes Hors d’Oeuvres, and free (all you can drink) beer, wine, soda, coffee, tea...! If you purchase via phone, ask for the "Columbia Ski Club" table (currently table #7). For on-line purchases specify in the "Notes" section that you're with the Columbia Ski Club (also note if you're not a US Citizen so appropriate access provisions can be made). For your protection credit card info should not be provided if you order on-line since the site is not encrypted. Instead they'll call you back at the phone number you specify. The table only holds 8, so first come first serve (I expect this table to sell out quickly). If by chance the table hasn't completely sold out by 2/13, the Goddard MAD Club will open it up to non-CSC patrons, so please reserve your tickets no later than 2/13 if you want a good seat next to friends. 03/08/2008 Sat	Sports	Event FULL! Curling - this Olympic sport is like chess on ice, played with rocks and brooms. The 4 hour session runs from 3-7pm and includes introduction and tuition from club coaches, as well as the chance to play against your friends. You don't need to be super fit, but this is a physical activity. This has been a very well attended event in the past so register early. Location: Potomac Curling Club, Laurel. Limited to 24 people. $35 can be paid at January or February meeting or email me for mailing checks. Note: Post-curling dinner at Red Hot & Blue (ribs place in Laurel) is an option!

We will be going Sunday evening March 16th and the tickets will cost $36.50 which includes a full buffet dinner, show, tax and partial gratuity and a really good time! Doors open at 9:45 for brunch and conversation. (I try to get there at 9:30 as the tables fill up fast.) The film begins at 10:30 followed by a spirited Q and A discussion. Titles are generally announced the week before each screening on the web site and in the Today section of The Baltimore Sun each Friday. We might want to go to Gertrude’s at the BMA for brunch after the show. Dottie Tim plays quiet listening jazz there every Sunday until around 2:30.

04/13/2008 Sun	Biking	Join us for a Bike ride, Sunday, April 13th, 11:30, on the capital crescent trail from Bethesda to Georgetown and back. This will be easy biking on p aved, flat trails. Total mileage will be 16 miles. We will bike to Georgetown on the first part of the trip; stop and pick a restaurant to have lunch in George town then head back to Bethesda. For those interested, we will end the trip with a movie at the historic Landmark movie theatre in Bethesda so bring a bike lock with you if you plan on attending the movie with us. Saturday April 26th will focus on tearing down water damaged ceiling and walls and putting up new dry wall Sunday April 27th will focus on painting the new dry wall. If you would like to work one of these days please let me know. I will take 10-15 people per day so probably you will have to pick and choose which day you would like to work. Let me know if you have skill/experience in either of these areas. *Special job*Who would like to be the Food Captain? this is very important job. I need an energetic, motivated person for this job. you will be responsible for setting up food donations for the work crew (this is a new duty for us). I would suggest a place like Duncan Donuts to donate coffe & juice and doughnuts for the arrival time (you would also be responsible for picking up and delivering). Luncxh could be pizza donations or sub donations etc., again you would be responsible for picking up and delivering. This could be split into 2 positions if necessary (breakfast and lunch).

Bike Ride - 25 miles or optionally 46 miles. (Route Map) We would ride the first loop on the map which is about 25 miles starting in Chestertown. Those more interested in riding vs. eating and drinking could do the whole 46 miles. When we get back to Cherstertown we can lock up our bikes and participate in their new once a year festival: Taste of Town from 1-5 PM Food, live band, dancing, wine - prepay $10.00 We can leave Chestertown around 5 PM to arrive back in Columbia 7:30pm (unless we are hungry enough for dinner on the way back).

05/03/2008 Sat	Hiking	Hike the Billy Goat Trail; a moderate-level 4 mile hike; lots of boulder-scrambling. Sturdy shoes or booys required. This trail is known for its unusual terrain and the payoff is a spectacular view of the Potomac Gorge, which is just part of the area that is considered “one of the most significant natural areas in the entire National Park System”. The hike is just shy of 2 miles on the Trail, but will take some time as you hike and climb up and down a few boulders, and another 2 miles of flat terrain back along the C&O to the starting point. Optional 1 mile extension up to the Great Falls overlook (MD side) at the top end. Lunch will be at a local excellent deli. Meet at 10:15am Dobbin C enter. Please bring a few extra dollars to chip in for carpool gasoline costs.

This Festival is at the Greek Orthodox Church, on Riva Rd.in Annapolis.And, it's a lot of fun with vendors selling crafts, incredible food and desserts. Don't forget the desserts. Their is entertainment, indoor or outdoor seating for dinner and we will meet at 6:00p.m. in the main hall. Come earlier or later if you like, the place is not so big that we can't find each other. Directions: Take Rt. 32 or Rt. 100 to Rt. 97 South. Then exit onto Rt. 50 East, stay in the right hand lane because this becomes your exit lane. Use exit 22, Rt. 665, Aris T. Allen Blvd. and continue to move to the right hand lane again. Next, exit to the right onto Riva Rd., go about 1 mile or so and the church is on the left. You can't miss it because of all the cars parked all over the place. Park in one of 3 places, the church parking lot, the street in front of the church or Annapolis High school, about 1/2 mile back on Riva Rd, other side of the street. Buses run from there all the time.

Wegman's is a store which has raised the bar on the food shopping experience - better quality goods, a spectacular abundance of choice, restaurant-quality prepared foods, and a beautiful store to boot. We will meet at 5:00pm inside Wegman's at the Hunt Valley Mall on the 2nd floor in the cafe seating area to eat an early dinner. You will need to buy your own dinner. Wegmans also has a wonderful bakery section and a coffee / tea bar so you can always just grab a cup of coffee and a pastry and people watch from the 2nd floor if you prefer not to purchase dinner. The Regal Theatre is located in the same shopping center as Wegmans and is just a two-minute walk from Wegmans. So, for those interested, we will attend a movie at approximately 7:00pm. Join Bill as he takes a look at one of the most prominent WPA Projects of the Great Depression (Tridelphia Dam), the Capital for a Day in the War of 1812 (Brookeville), a "Rich" slave's cabin of the early 1800s (Oakley Cabin) and the old country store in Sunshine. I'll ride at the rear of the group and leave nobody behind. Meet at the Glenelg High School (Burntwood Rd & Sharp Rd) at 9:30. Helmets must be worn on all CSC bike rides. Bring your cell phone so that you can call Bill in an emergency.
06/01/2008 Sun	Service	MPT Pledge Drive - Columbia Ski Club is going to work the 3 – 7 pm shift for the Maryland Public Television (MPT) June 1 pledge drive. Volunteers not only help MPT raise funds to create and purchase quality programs for viewers, they also realize an excellent opportunity to let people know about their organization’s upcoming events and activities. CSC needs 15+ volunteers over the age of 18 years. We can bring friends, relatives and co-workers to fill our group. The group needs to arrive at MPT (11767 Owings Mills Blvd., Owings Mills, MD 21117) at about at 2 pm for training. A hot meal will be provided in the MPT Visitors Center and they usually provide snacks. Please contact Brenda to volunteer.

06/08/2008 Sun	Biking	Tour Dem Parks, Hon is a major fundraising event focused on supporting groups and organizations dedicated to improving Baltimore’s Park system. The event provides friends and families with an opportunity to ride together and discover little-known treasures in the city. Nina has registered and will be doing the 60 mile ride (the longest). The three other lengths being offered are 14, 20, 30 miles (see link below for details). Cost is $25 for singles or $35 for couples. Cinema Sundays begins with a simple brunch - a buffet of Sam's bagels and cream cheese, gourmet Coffee Mill coffee, tea, and steaming hot chocolate. Seating fills up fast so get there at 9:30 am to secure a table. Brunch begins at 9:45 am. The film begins at 10:30 am followed by a spirited Q and A discussion. Titles are generally announced the week before each screening on the web site and in the Today section of The Baltimore Sun each Friday.

08/17/2008 Sun	Biking	Lancaster Metric Century. These 100, 50 and 25 kilometer (62, 31 & 15 mile) rides wind their way through some of Pennsylvania's most famous rural scenery, including seven covered bridges. The terrain is rolling with a few hills on the 100K ride and flat to moderately rolling on the 50K & 25K rides. The rewards are stunning vistas of the richest farmland in America. Registration is $20. Children 12 and under are free. The fee covers lunch, water stops, sag wagons, cue sheets, road markings, ice cream and a general good time. Bike helmets are mandatory for all CSC rides.

09/09/2007 Sun	Biking	Bike ride the hidden route from Owen Brown to Clarksville about 20 miles r/t. Lunch in Clarksville at halfway point. Meeting at 10:30 am at a parking lot at 'Lakeview at Broken Land'. To mapquest it for directions, type in 9861 Broken Land Pkwy. Below are more specific directions: * Follow Route 32 West toward Columbia to the Broken Land Parkway exit. * The exit forks; bear RIGHT (heading North). * Go through the first traffic light on Broken Land. * Stay in the left lane. * Take the first left into the Lakeview Office Park. (If you reach the second traffic light, then you have gone too far.) Bike helmets are mandatory on all CSC rides.

Depart at 8:00 from the west lot of the park & ride on Broken Land Parkway at Rt. 32. Return to Columbia before 2PM. Check it out at www.coastalcleanup.org. With Sierra club.

Blob's Park is an authentic Bavarian Biergarten featuring homecooked German style foods and over seventy brands of beer.
